Collaboration

Cuba’s culture is known throughout the world especially for its music. Music is a very important element of Cuban society and traditional styles are still popular and influential. Cuba is a vibrant country full of music, poetry, dance and conversation. That is why we have decided to collaborate with different local projects:

The marañon is getting stronger

The project The marañon is getting stronger defends the Guajiras, the rural men and women of Arroyos de Mantua.
Since 2002, there have been houses that are in a critical state and are in ruins, which means that many families are living in very poor conditions.

The project helps homeless families by building wooden houses with guano roofs. Guano is a wild plant, whose leaves are used to build the roof and usually last between 4 and 5 years. These roofs, although they provide shelter for many families, are not the best solution, since on rainy days water enters the interior of the houses.
In Arroyos de Mantua, most people work in the countryside and need a good home to be able to rest after an intense day in the countryside.

La camorra

La Camorra project was founded by Orquídea and Luismi, an exceptional couple who came up with a way to offer the children and young people of Puerto Esperanza, especially those from this disadvantaged neighbourhood (La Camorra), an alternative for their free time, in addition to providing them with educational support. The project not only teaches values, but also provides artistic training in this small coastal town in Cuba.
The program offered by La Camorra is very motivating for those who participate, and according to Orquídea, many nights the young people stay overnight at the place, which is also the home of the founding couple, and enjoy evenings full of games, songs and dances.
They have managed to create a second home, where the young people feel protected, loved and with the opportunity to develop their full potential.

Korimakao Artistic Project

It was founded on November 8, 1998, as a theatre group for adults and children whose topics are dedicated to the care and conservation of Nature, the main treasure of the region. Later, it was extended to the participation of children and teenagers, settling in the town of Cayo Ramona because it has the largest Educational Complex in the municipality, which favours the incidence of a greater number of children.
This project addresses a contemporary problem of great importance, the need for Community Environmental Education, based on the assumptions of art as a way of influencing in a healthy way the change of attitude of men, women and especially children and young people towards the natural environment that surrounds them. In this case, the problem is addressed using different artistic manifestations as an effective way to transfer knowledge and aesthetic pleasures, directed especially to the care and respect of nature, using as the main stage the communities and schools of the Ciénaga de Zapata wetland, one of the most important natural territories in the country in terms of its biodiversity.

Ammonite Dance

The group was created on January 15, 2015, with the aim of giving the country’s youth another option to express themselves and thus be able to get off the streets.
At the beginning, this project was called Revolution Dance, with the idea of revolutionizing and promoting a change in the minds of young people, since they were not only going to work with Cuban dances but also to get to know other styles, both from Cuba and from other countries, with the objective of people knowing them as a universal, more open group.
Years later, they had the idea of changing the name to something that represented more the people of Viñales, where the project is located. And the name Ammonite Dance was born, ammonite is a type of mollusk that is collected in this area.
Since then, they continue fighting, warring and giving it their all, knowing that they must keep pushing without stopping.

Help with supplies

From 1992 to the present day, the people of Cuba have carried on their shoulders an economic crisis, which has greatly affected the island.

Their main problem is the country’s gastronomic needs, since high prices have harmed the humblest people, who cannot acquire food due to its high value.

An important fact to take into account in order to really see the seriousness of the matter is that a good percentage of inhabitants have to skip several meals a day, since their purchasing power is very low, and they can only buy the bread that the government gives.

The shortage of medicines is another point to consider, the pharmacies are practically empty; thanks to neighbouring countries, friends and tourists, who send donations to pharmacies, hospitals and schools.

From KéVolá we are committed to collaborating with the most difficult supplies.
